QuestionHi, my daughter has a big problem. She is about 8-10kg overweight and is very unhappy about it. She has very bad cravings for starches especially and even too many fruit. But her other problem is that she has a severe case of Reading Disorder/Dyslexia. She tries very hard but struggles a lot to keep up with her peers. She insists on putting many extra hours of studying and work to keep up. She works almost all day. This is very time consuming.
Basically, is there not an exercise or food type or medicine type (I'm pretty desperate) that will help her to lose all her extra kilograms without being too time consuming?
Unfortunately waking up earlier or cutting back studying time isn't really an option.
Also can you direct me to a free site with free recipes; healthy but easy ones. I would prefer it if they would be healthier versions of classic recipes )e.g. healthy beef strogonoff).
Thank you and please answer both my questions as soon as possible!
AnswerHi Allora, A new study just came out and the conclusion was that overweight kids are overweight due to the food they eat.
Carbohydrate foods should be limited in overweight kids. Carbohydrate foods can cause food cravings and allow fat to be stored due to insulin production. Limit fruit juice, pasta, rice, mac and cheese, cookies, crackers, and other foods that are full of flour and sugar. Have her snack on lean meat, fish, chicken, whole vegetables with low fat dip, sugar free jello, low fat cheese or dairy products, and whole grain bread (limit it to two slices per day). Beef Stroganoff would only be healthy if it didn't contain the noodles, so look for a low carb cook book at your local library, and choose recipes that she might like and measure size portions correctly. She should walk for at least 30 minutes per day and follow a lower carb eating plan. She should be able to lose 1-2 pounds or about 1/2 to 1 kg per week if she did this. Hope that helps, Laura Kraemer,Slimkids.com
