Scales and sugar obsessed!

Question
How can I overcome being obsessed with weighing myself everyday? I go to weight watchers and I get weighed there once an week but it's come to the stage where I weigh myself at least twice a day everyday during the week to see how I'm going, and as the day I go to weight watchers comes closer I become so obsessed that after exercise I don't drink any water and don't eat much food up until the day I get weighed in. Then, after I get weighed in, I practically go on a binge and put on most of the weight I have lost and have to continue the cycle over and over every week. I've lost a lot of weight up until now, 55lbs to be exact, but I'm at the last stages and I've become obsessed with getting it off... what should I do? Should I give away my scale batteries or throw out my scales, and also should I stop getting weighed at weight watchers for a little while to get back on track i.e. go back to how I used to do it?
Also, even after losing a lot of weight, I still have a serious addiction to sugar. What can I do to overcome this?

Answer
Hello AJ,
From what you describe you have indeed developed an obsession and this can probably be diagnosed as some type of eating disorder. I would have to suggest finding a counselor in your area who specializes in eating disorder therapy. It is very, very common and extremely disabling. Unlike any other addiction (alcohol or drugs, for instance) quitting is not an option. Food is involved in our life every day, several times a day and we see and feel our body (fullness in our belly, cravings in our mind, stomach against our waistbands) constantly. It's not something to try overcoming on your own. There is help!
It's great you have been so successful in losing so much weight. My guess is there is something else going on in your life now that is stressful and it makes some people turn their focus to food and weight as something they have control of... then it just snowballs out of control.
If I can give you any further guidance do feel free to stay in touch. I know you can overcome this with the help of the right counselor!
