The color is caused by the pigmentation of the fruit. The pink or red variety contains more vitamins than the white. They all have about the same calories, 100 per fruit, so it doesn't matter from a calorie standpoint which color you like.

Grapefruits usually have less than 100 calories, so will be good for weight loss. It is good as a food in between meals, and also can fill you up due to its fiber content.
Also grapefruits block the uptake of fatty acids into cells to prevent our bodies from effectively using carbohydrates, thus reducing sugar consumption apparently.
