QuestionHi
I am a bit chubby and carry most of my weight on my belly. It seems to increase or decrease by a belt notch or two.
I have been watching what I eat carefully and have narrowed it down to two foods.
1. White flour, or anything made with it. If I eat white bread two hours later I get gassy and bloated and a bit nauseus. I am fine with whole wheat bread, pasta, etc. so I dont think its celiac.
2. Red meat. If I have a small piece of beef or pork-even if its lean-the same thing happens.Chicken and fish no problem.
Have you heard of this? Is it common for people my age 55 to get food sensitivities?
AnswerI seems to me that you have essentially answered your own question. Obviously, your body does not do well with red meat, and it would be highly advantageous for you to eliminate it from your diet. As far as iron is concerned, red meat is a good source of iron, but so are many other things, including leafy green plants. As far as protein is concerned, meat protein is inferior to plant-based proteins.
Even more convincing are recent studies that have proven that eating meat increases your chances of certain types of cancer, colorectal in particular, and that meat protein can be connected to many other medical ailments as well including some auto-immune disorders and heart disease.
If you feel that you must eat meat, I suggest that you keep to naturally-raised chicken (without hormones or antibiotics) and wild caught fish. An ideal healthy diet should consist of 75 percent whole, unprocessed vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds and plant based oils preferably raw and organic.
It is always wise to listen to you body. If something does not "agree" with you, then that is a clear signal to avoid it. Best of luck.
