Eating Raw Eggs

Question
Hi,

Could you please inform me whether our bodies can absorb almost all the proteins in raw eggs? Or do I have to cook it before I can digest the proteins? I'm asking this because I'm eating raw eggs on a regular basis (one or two a day, 4 times a week) it's so easy and simple for me as a student...

Also, after I do weightlifting for a hour I eat the egg afterwards to use the proteins of the eggs to build my muscle, is this correct or am I supposed to eat it before the training? I don't want to burn off the proteins of the egg, ofcourse.

Thanks!

Answer
The protein in raw eggs cannot be digested by the body.  It is bound up in the albumin and is not available in that form.  In order to obtain benefit from the protein in eggs you definitely should cook them first.

Secondly, you would benefit much more from eating plant-based proteins than animal-based proteins.  I donot recommend eating animal-based proteins. Although, I have been contradicted by many weight trainers, I recommend that if you wish to build muscle tissue, you should eat carbohydrates prior to working out to provide fuel, and you should consume protein after your work out to assist the body in building muscle tissue.

Again, this is just my recommendation and many weight trainers do not agree with me. If you have a weight trainer, I would follow his recommendations since he/she is more personally familiar with your individual needs.
