QuestionIm a 14 year old girl who is 5 feet and 2 inches. In September I weighed 155 pounds, but in about October I stopped eating ice cream and tried to snack a little less but I never weighed myself. In late February I started counting calories and exercising more. About two weeks into that I weighed a little over 145. I have continued my calories counting and now I weigh 140(but that was a few days a go, I may be 139 now). My goal weight is 120 pounds. I try to eat over 1000 calories a day of healthy food, but sometimes it will be 8 o'clock at night and i'll realise I only ate 800 or 900. I have NEVER starved myself, but since I cut out snacking on junk food it seems like my body only requires 1000 calories a day. Also, I don't eat vegetables. I never have. But I have been trying them to find one that I like because I know how important they are. Is the low amount of calories because of not eating vegetables? Is it healthy if I am not hungry and only eat 900 or 1000 calories a day? Do you think I am
losing muscle or fat?
AnswerDear Hannah, Under 1000 calories per day is considered a very low calorie diet and you should be under the supervision of a doctor if you are following that type of diet. The reason you should be under the supervision of a doctor is that you will lose muscle and there are important muscles in the body that you don't want to weaken, the heart being one. For extra protein and vegetables, add some tuna fish or chicken to your diet and some V8 juice. You are a growing teenager, not a grown adult, your body is still growing and maturing. Make sure you supply it with what it needs. Hope that helps, Laura Kraemer,Slimkids.com
