QuestionHi - recently I've been eating mostly nuts and fruit and vegetables - it really is all I'm craving. My concern is, I eat up to 4 "Kind" Bars a day (150-170 calories each)- they have like 11 grams of fat each, but are all nuts and all natural. I also typically have a 100 calorie pack of almonds. My average daily calories work out to about 1400-1700 depending on how much I work out... my concern is this - am I eating too much fat? I've lost a few pounds (I'm about 116-117 at 5'2", 22 years old, trying to get in shape to be a Maid of Honor in November), but I worry what I'm potentially doing to my arteries and heart... any advice??
Thank you!
AnswerDear Shannon,
Don't worry! The nuts that are in fat are the "good" kind and nuts contain zero cholesterol, so you don't have to worry about your arteries. I'm glad to hear you are also eating fruits and vegetables, but think about including a few foods from the other food groups: Calcium from the dairy group and some important minerals found in meats, like iron, and B vitamins and energy from the grain group. These will help to balance your diet.
Your fat intake sounds like it's just about 50 grams per day, which is still in the "low" normal range (not too low, at all, but not leaning towards high, which is important) and comprises aboout 30% of the calories in your diet, which is perfectly fine!
I would just suggest you incorporate a bit more variety.
have a great time at the wedding!
