Questionhi, i recently learned that most calcium supplements are ontaminated with lead, which source of calcium supplement doesn't contain lead? i am pregnant and need to take extra calcium and want to make the best choice. thanks for your assistance in advance, gia
AnswerI would look to get most of your calcium from real whole food sources. The problem with most supplements is they are not very digestible.
Your best choice being dairy foods:
* Yogurt, plain
* Yogurt, fruit
* Milk, low fat or nonfat
* Milk, whole
* Cheese, including American, ricotta, cheddar cheese and mozzarella cheese
* Milk shakes
* Eggnog
Non Dariy sources:
* Salmon
* Tofu
* Rhubarb
* Sardines
* Collard greens
* Spinach
* Turnip greens
* Okra
* White beans
* Baked beans
* Broccoli
* Peas
* Brussel sprouts
* Sesame seeds
* Bok choy
* Almonds
just remember many of those are not as good or uptake-able as the calcium naturally found in milk
but they will do the job if you get plenty.
