QuestionI have lost quite a bit of weight recently mostly by exercising and eating very healthy and low simple carb, but my belly although it is almost free ofI subcutaneous fat is still quite distended.
My doctor says I have visceral fat, but I think in addition to this I may have dairy intolerance.
I have noticed that if I had a glass of milk/bowl ice cream there is a delayed reaction and hours later I feel bloated and nauseous-not a lot but noticeable.
I havent had any dairy for a couple weeks now apart from milk in my coffee and the odd piece of cheese.
I still have the distension.
Could even this meagre amount of dairy be the culprit?
If I cut that out will I improve and how long to see results?
BTW I also cut out gluten but that didnt help.
Thanks!
AnswerHello Gord,
First of all I want to congratulate you on your healthy weight loss!
It makes sense that you would have symptoms hours after ingesting dairy, since it takes 2-3 hours for food to empty from your stomach. While gluten intolerance can show symptoms for weeks, cutting dairy out of your diet should show results that same day, since the symptoms only last while lactose is in your gastrointestinal tract.
If it is, in fact, visceral fat that is distending your abdomen, this should continue to disappear as you continue to lose weight (if that is your goal). You did not mention your height and weight, but if you check a BMI chart and find you are in the "overweight" area it probably is just fat still remaining.
If you have the distension when you wake up in the morning, it's probably not from something you ate, since your digestive tract should be fairly empty by then.
