DAUGHTER WEIGHTLOSS

Question
I'm trying to figure the best way to help my 11 year old daughter lose weight. she is abt 4' and 132lbs. what i was thinking was cut out bread & increase other foods that have fiber but its so hard to tell a child they cant have some of their favorite foods. can you suggest something?
thanks

Answer
If her favorite foods are the foods that are making her gain weight, then they do have to be limited. Save those types of foods for holidays, parties, or special occasions like Halloween. No child should eat candy, cookies, or foods like that everyday. Cutting carbs will help her lose weight, she should only have bread at lunch, or at dinner if she didn't have bread at lunch. Portion sizes are important, so her cereal portion should be measured out as should milk and other foods that have portion sizes on container. Foods that promote weight gain are foods like mac and cheese, pasta, juice, excess milk, cookies, crackers, candy, sugar in any form, processed foods, pizza, ice cream, excessive bread, bagels, and other foods that contain carbs. Foods that should be promoted are lean meats, chicken, fish, high fiber bread (2 slices per day unless she has an egg at breakfast, then she can have extra slice) whole fruits, vegetables, healthy fats like those in olive oil and salad dressings, and low fat dairy foods. The second part of weight loss and weight control is daily walking for at least 30 minutes, everyday. Hope that helps, Laura Kraemer,Slimkids.com
