QuestionHi, I am the father of two boys ages 3 and 8. During the week my family eats a very healthy diet. We eats lots of organic food and lean meats. My boys are involved in Soccer and Mixed Martial Arts. However on the weekends, sometimes Friday night sometimes on Saturday, my boys and I go to McDonalds, order a pizza or go to some other fast food place. Last week we went to McDonalds and my older son had a milkshake and 2 cheeseburgers and large fries; this is typical. This is something that both boys look forward to every week.
My question is does this make them just as likely to develop bad eating habits?
Does this make fast food more desirable because family nights are centered on eating out once a week in fast food restaurants?
AnswerDear Kenneth, Eating fast food four times a month is not such a bad thing. Your 8 year old did choose a lot of fattening foods for one meal. You might want to help him pick foods that are not so unhealthy like low fat milk, a chicken sandwich and some fruit. hope that helps, Laura Kraemer,Slimkids.com
