Carbonated drinks, vitamin D3 and calcium

Question
hi, my question is if i take a multi-vitamin or any other vitamin in the morning and then lets say thrighout the day i have 1-3 glasses of soda will that effect the vitamin absorption in my body? my friend told me if you take any vitamins and then drink soda it is like you didn't even take the vitamin because the soda erases the vitamins from your body. is that true? thanks!

Answer
Erica,

There's no clear indication that "sodas" influences vitamin absorption generally. Diet sodas is under scrutiny being suspected in promoting osteoporosis via Ca and vit. D3 deficiencies. However, it is not clear whether its' due to its interference with absorption or due to decrease in milk (a healthier drink than any soda) consumption found in soda drinkers. On the other hand, carbonated drinks containing phosphoric acid do interfere with vitamin D absorption.

I am not aware of carbonated drinks influence on other vitamins. As to the vitamin D3, it's role in maintaining good health is very important, you ight want to read these articles:
