QuestionHi Dan,
I would like to begin to cut my carbs to a level where I lose weight...What is the right number of carbs to lose weight?
Thanks!
AnswerHi Sara,
Congratulations on your decision to get healthier!
The specific number of carbs you need to eat to lose weight is different for every person. If you want to know the exact point you will have to do a test where you eat less and less carbs but consume consistent calories until you lose some weight.
If you don't want to get that scientific, below are some general guidelines:
0-50g of Carbs Per Day
This is typically the range that low carb diets start off in (i.e. Atkins induction). Fast weight loss occurs if this range is maintained. Typically not recommended for long term weight loss due to limited veggies.
51-100g of Carbs Per Day
This is generally considered the safe and effective range for carb consumption and continued weight loss.
101-150g of Carbs Per Day
This is the range most low carb diets keep you in during maintenance. You will maintain a healthy weight in this range.
More than 150 grams per day is typically the point where most people begin to gain weight.
