ANSWER: Hello,
To answer your question, let me make it clear that the commercial doses of amino acids including arginine and ornithine are way below established effective doses please read the article by fitness expert Christian Finn "Do human growth hormone supplements work?" at http://atkinszone-faq.blogspot.com/2008/08/do-human-growth-hormone-supplements.h
As to the protein needs, please read:

QUESTION: Thanks for the infomation but the first article is pretty much half the article because they require you to subscribe to view the entire article besides growth hormone and other stuff does l-arginine or the combination l-arginine/l-ornithine have a beneficial to the body as whole nitric oxide wise etc? and is there a bad side to it aswell? i mean in your expert opinion what should I be doing to increase my energy and perfomance? what about testosterone levels ?
AnswerSorry I didn't realize about the first article. However, I wrote about GH releasers in http://agelessbrain.com/2011/02/growth-hormone-and-its-releasers-a-hope-for-alzh - though it is not about performance, the amino acid's effects on GH still the same. As to , the dose 20 mg/day reported to cause fatigue, I'm not aware of 5 mg - how it can influence performance. Do you feel fatigued?
Now, in my opinion and partly as a result of our research into energy substrates, I would recommend you to try pyruvate. I know quite a few people benefitted from its intake:
