QuestionHello,
a little ago a nurse has mentioned with me that putting children on a diet for weightloss is wrong and their weight should only be balanced by teaching them how to eat healthy but without counting, plans, charts and real diets with allowed/not allowed foods...I would be curious to know if this is true, if this is some kind of new guideline or just a personal opinion of that nurse.
Thanks!
AnswerDear Malika, There are no scientific studies that I know of discussing what is the right and wrong way to help a child lose weight. The government guidelines do state that to help overweight kids lose weight they should eat a healthy diet, exercise everyday for at least 30-45 minutes, and limit TV,computer, and video games to 2 hours or less per day. Eating a healthy diet is not an easy task, so education is the key. So I think it was her own personal opinion, unless she knew of a study that I haven't seen. Hope that helps, Laura Kraemer,Slimkids.com
