QuestionI'm currently 18 and I've been trying to find ways to get lean, but still gain mass muscle. Now I train with a friend named Nate and hes on this thing called a low carb diet. Hes a model and he likes to get and stay lean. Now he said I don't need more than 100 grams of carbs a day. And any more than that won't help me loose weight. And he also said that eating 100 grams of carbs won't hinder or slow down my mass muscle gaining. Is this true?
I weigh 208 lbs and I consume between 120-150 grams of carbs a day. And I also consume a little bit more than 250 grams of protein a day and around 2,700-3,000 calories a day. And The highest carb meal I have is oatmeal and thats before my workouts. The rest of the day its just mainly high protein, low carb meals. And I do about 20 mins of slow-moderate cardio about 3-4 times a week after my workouts.
So if I want to get lean but still gain muscle mass should I listen to him or just stick with my plan I have going now?
AnswerDear Kurt,
To answer to the low carb part of your question, I suggest that you visit a free site containing a complete (and free) program based on scientific calculation of carbs, fats, and protein, http://bantadiet.com
As to the muscle building part, you'll find instructions in a due time -- if you follow this program. In any case, you'll figure out what the low carb way of eating is about.
Should you, however, decide against trying it, read my low carb tips collection at http://diet.lifetips.com/cat/65665/low-carb-diets/index.html
Good luck,
