QuestionDear Lawrence Sanchez,
As a regular eater of breakfast cereals, and as someone wanting to steer clear of misleading cereals that either claim to be nutricious or acceptable as part of a healtlthy balanceded life style; could you shed any light on and listings of which cereals are the healthiest and offer the best nutrional values and which cereals are the unhealthiest, and therefore, ideally be avoided?
thank you
AnswerWhen reading a box of cereal look for whether or not it contains BGH or BHT these are used to prolong the the life of the cereal and have been linked to cancer. I also look at the amount of Carbohydrates and sugars. If when you combine the two they add up to more then 28 mg I stay away from it. Carbs turn to sugar if not used. Sugar cause you to age and stimulates your appetite. Another thing to look for is High Fructose corn syrup as a sweetener. High Fructose cause high spiking insulin levels that eventually lead to ones resistance and possible diabeties.Stay away from cereals with artificial colors and flavors these are also linked to cancer. Highly processed cereals are also not advised. If when you read the label there are a lot of words that you cant pronounce or know what they mean this is also an indication of a highly processed food.
Know what is good is cereal that is organic and therefor lightly processed and processed using organic fillers. Try to eat a cereal that has plenty of fiber and has nutrients.Wholefoods sells a good variety of healthy cereal. Hot cereal such as Oat Meal without sugar added is great.
Hopefully this WILL help make a better decision on which cereals are worth eating.
