Diet and Healthy Safe Weight Loss

Question
I am 34 years old and 240 lbs. and I am 6' 1". I made a decision to lose weight and get in shape. Though I don't think I was really fat because I had a lot of lean muscle mass. More like husky with a bit of a gut. So I decided to go and drop some weight and tone up more. The only thing is that I have some injuries to the discs in my neck and back where they slip due to a couple of car accidents.  But I proceeded anyway. I dramtically cut my intake of calories to 1/4 of what I should be eating for my age, height and weight, maybe even less. And started lifting weights and doing aerobic exercises. I lost 10 lbs in 3 or 4 days. Now I am 230 lbs, but  I am not budging from that weight. It is stuck their, its like I hit a wall. I can not lose anything more even though I have continued to keep my calories dramatically low. And now I feel really sick. I have aches and pains in my neck and back, cracking in my back and arthritic type aches and pains. Did I lose the 10 lbs to quickly? What have I done wrong? I thought being 240 lbs was more of a risk to my health then losing the weight. I thought it was necessary to take the weight of my back vertebrates and my feet, along with being better for my heart. Do I have it all wrong? Can you tell me what I have done wrong? Whether I lost the weight to quickly? What I can do to fix this so I can feel better? And how can I know if I truly am overweight and at risk for health problems? I did recently eat a few protein bars while lifting weights, could that be what brought me up to that high weight? Could it be the protein bars caused me to put on a lot of lean muscle mass. I am pretty sure 240 lbs is getting out of control and is a problem though. Is their any way to know if I have a thyroid issue. I have always been around 220 lbs. All the sudden I looked and I was 240 lbs, maybe it's the protein bars. How can I lose weight and tone up safely and correctly? You are better qualified to know the answers to these questions. Thank you.

Answer
Hi Gene,

Your BMI (body mass index) is 30.3 which is an indicator that you are overweight/obese. Your ideal weight is about 185 lbs.

It's best to reduce your food intake by 500-1000 calories/day. When you eat too little calories, your metabolism slows down. Your body is very smart & it adjusts to your food intake.

When lifting weight start slow w/ small weights to avoid injuries. Avoid protein bars, instead eat foods that are rich in fiber & resistant starch such as shown in this video:
