Magnesium sulfate long term effects

Question
A couple weeks ago I was told by my doctor to flush my system with milk of magnesia (I was backed up about 6 bowel movements.) about a week later I had to go to the ER because I suddenly couldn't breathe and I had numbness in my limbs. They pumped me full of saline and gave me potassium. I went to my family doctor for a follow-up and she said I was going to be fine and return to a normal diet. I am still experiencing the numbness in the left side of my body (leg, arm, and hand.) It's affecting my coordination and starting to worry me. Will it go away on its own as I continue to eat healthy? or should I see a neurologist. Can that kind of deficiency cause nerve damage? Please help. Its affecting my daily life..

Answer
Dear Kelci,

Magnesium milc's (Mg(OH)2 effect should not last that long and should not cause nerve damage. If I were you, I would go back to the family doctor and tell her what's going on. Don't take it too lightly! She most likely will direct you to a neurologist and some tests could be needed.
