QuestionHello my name is Melanie and I am a 28yr old female. About 5yrs ago I lost about 100 pounds going from 250 lbs down to 150 lb by changing my eating habits (I am now a vegan) and adding exercise. I am 5 ft 4 in tall and would like to weigh around 140 lbs. About a year and a half ago I started gaining weight unexplained by me and all of my doctors. In one year I've gained over 20 lbs and I am now 172 lbs. The only changes in my life style have been that I have added strength training 3 days a week that I never did before and I do more cardio running/walking 5 days a week. I keep a food journal and count calories which I usually consume between 1200-1600 per day. I am very interested and amazed by the human body and consider myself pretty well informed. Now I am completely stumped and frustrated. Any help/advice would be so greatly appreciated!
Thanks so much,
Melanie
AnswerHi Melanie
I can make some suggestions that may uncover what may or may not be causing your issues.
1. Have your BMR taken)
The rate at which energy is used by an organism at complete rest, measured in humans by the heat given off per unit time, and expressed as the calories released per kilogram of body weight or per square meter of body surface per hour. This will be done by measuring your VO2 this will tell you how many calories you are actually using.
2. Get a physical with a complete blood make up including checking for vitamin and mineral deficiencies also have your thyroid checked.
3. Several young women today, some in their thirties and some even younger, have started to experience the early onset of hormone imbalance symptoms and their associated disorders.Have a saliva test down to check for hormone imbalances.
I would start with these three suggestions first.
Thanks For Writing and Goodluck
