QuestionHi Cari.......
I'm almost 61, 6', and about 260 pounds. Since I was about 11, I've always had issues with my weight. I've been up and down all of my life. I was a runner in my early 30's, I've been on Weight Watchers, etc. I think I've done it all but I can't seem to "do it" consistently. I know what it feels like to be healthy and how great it makes you feel when you look good in your clothes.
I have started exercise programs and quit after a month or two. The same goes for diet plans and portion control. I've tried hypnotism and acupuncture as well. It's gotten to the point where I feel it's hopeless. I ask myself..why should I try again if I'm going to fail again. If I don't get "this" under control soon, I'm going to have to buy some new clothes.
I'm writing to you, not because I expect you to have a magic formula or pill to solve my issues, but mostly to vent my frustrations. I think about this everyday, and everyday I do nothing about it. I understand it's always going to come down to proper nutrition and exercise. Do you have any suggestions on how I might motivate myself to get off my ass and tackle this? I am sooo comfortable with my daily routine that it feels uncomfortable just thinking about deviating from it. I'm even shying away from getting my yearly physical because I know my doc is going to yell. How pathetic is that?
With all of that said, might you have some advice and/or suggestions to get me started and some tips on how to stick with a "program" consistently month to month? I'm a non-smoker(thank God) and a certifiable carb addict. Please help!! I look forward to your reply.

MInd over Fatter
Hi Ethan
Well I had to smile when I read your letter because it sounded just like something that I could have written myself a few years ago :) And with that in mind.... I think you might find these few references really enlightening. The first one is about diet motivation.... and if you've already done all that you've mentioned....well um... I hate to say this, but motivation isn't your problem as this article will reveal. The other is this: diets work best if you want to gain weight in the long run. It's really a myth that it's all about diet an exercise.... because if it were just that then we'd all be skinny by now. But as I reveal in my Mind over Fatter program, there is one secret ingredient that has to come with the diet and exercise bit for them to become sustainable...and that happens in the MIND. We're constantly battling with our body - but it's not our body that' the problem...
