QuestionHello, I am a 52 year old male, normal weight. I eat a scrambled egg every morning. I don't eat a lot of other junk food. I am wondering if a egg a day is to much cholesterol ? I don't want to have to take a statin drug in the future ! Should I try to eat a bowl of cereal once a week with no egg. I also take a omega 3 fish oil pill once a day.
Thank You.
Doug.
AnswerHello Doug,
There are far too many variations in the diet and in each person's unique physiology to tell if an egg a day is too much for you, personally.
Do you know what your cholesterol level is now? If your LDL ('bad cholesterol') level is fine and you've been eating this way for a long time, chances are it isn't having any untoward effects on your system.
If you want to be more cautious, give Egg Beaters (or another egg substitute) a try; or try scrambling 2 egg whites with just a half a yolk for coloring and texture. Lots of people just can't stand to throw away a perfectly good yolk, so they really have to go with the egg substitutes. Either way, you'll be cutting out 200-300 mg of cholesterol a day!
