QuestionI read that eating red meat is bad for your health. The article did not say WHAT was in red meat that was bad for you. Do you have any ideas on this?
If this is true, what about low-fat yogurt, and fat-free milk? I eat, and drink both. Should I stop?
PS after this meat article, my consumption of beef has dropped WAY down!
AnswerHi David
Red meat contains a lot of fat and cholesterol. Red meat also contains additional hormones that have been injected prior to slaughter to ensure that the animals do not get sick prior to sale. These hormones according to some studies can find themselves in us later which may cause negative reaction in are bodies. 揟he association between consumption of red and processed meats and cancer, particularly colorectal cancer, is very consistent,?says Marji McCullough, PhD, a nutritional epidemiologist with the American Cancer Society. This is mostly because red meat takes a long time digest; and rots in are intestines causing eventually a unhealthy Colon. For heart disease, the answer is pretty clear. Some red meats are high in saturated fat, which raises blood cholesterol. High levels of LDL cholesterol increase the risk of heart disease.
As for all the other dairy products the way you listed them they are fine. The key is moderation when it comes to all things including Red Meat. Eating Red meat every once in a while is not going to kill you , but limiting it will help you.
