QuestionHi Lawrence
I am pretty sure I am carbohydrate sensitive, which has caused me to have metabolic syndrome or 'pre-diabetes'. Cutting out the 'man made' carbs is the only way I can lose weight and feel better.
I have also began to suspect margerine might be a culprit- even the supposed healthy Becel I use. I becam 'addicted' to margerine as a child, and preferred it to this day over butter, which my wife and kids use. BTW they dont have my issues.
For the past week I have been using butter, albeit sparingly. My I.B.S. is better, and it feels like my metabolism is speeding up a bit.
It is pretty hard to find the truth about margerine online-most info promotes the healthy aspects.
I would be interested in your opinion, and any experiances re. switcghing from margerine to butter!
AnswerThe truth is, there never was any good evidence that using margarine instead of butter cut the chances of having a heart attack or developing heart disease. Making the switch was a well-intentioned guess, given that margarine had less saturated fat than butter, but it overlooked the dangers of trans fats.Healthier alternatives to butter or margarine include olive oil and other vegetable oil朾ased spreads, which contain beneficial mono- and polyunsaturated fats. There was some study on pre diabetes and margarine intake. They basically are parts of other studies that reflect multiple other vices. The facts are there are no studies specifically in regards to margarine that I can say truly reflect pre diabetes. As for both margarine and butter they will both slow your metabolism.
