QuestionTanya Zilberter, PhD says coke zero "has intensive sweet taste and as such, causes your body releasing insulin"
I thought that you cannot state that coke zero promotes an insulin spike. Insulin is only released when one consumes carbs and needs it to be stored as glycogen.
So my question is --> Is Tanya Zilberter correct?
AnswerHi Romeo,
Good question! You're body is much more complicated than most people think or the idea you might get from reading a nutrition book.
Yes, taste alone can trigger insulin production. Why? Because your body becomes conditioned to that sweet taste and automatically links "really sweet taste" to "must prepare insulin for imminent blood sugar release."
You see, someone who drinks soda over years will develop that conditioning and then if they switch to a sugar-free coke, their body would still think that sweet taste meant sugar was about to hit the bloodstream.
I hope that helps!
