QuestionHi,
If I have a ready meal that contains 500 cals, 65g carbs and 20g fat. Etc, and only pick out the carrots, which weight 50g, would the calorie content of them be 15 cals? As if carrots are 30 cals per 100g.
What I'm trying to say is if I choose any ready meal (high cal, fat etc) but only ate the vegetables out of it and if there was chicken breast, would the calorie value of this be the same as if it was never in the ready meal? (I'd wash the product of any sauce/gravy etc)
Many Thanks
Emma
AnswerHi Emma,
If I understand your question correctly, I believe the answer is yes. If you had a prepared meal and only ate the carrots from the meal, having washed them off of any sauce or gravy, they would have the same amount of calories as a raw carrot from the store.
However, although the calorie count would be the same, the actually nutrition from the carrot (or any fruit, vegetable or berry) would be much less than a fresh one. Produce loses its nutrient and enzyme activity from sitting on the shelf, cooking, microwaving, etc. so any produce in a prepared meal would be much less nutritious than fresh raw produce.
I hope that helps!
