Too low calories???

Question
PLEASE OH PLEASE HELP ME!!!   I have been all over the Internet and even seen a doctor and I still don't know the answer I need!

I am 277 pounds and 5' 7" tall, large frame.  I want to weigh 150.  I am breastfeeding a toddler (2 years old).  All the info I find keeps referring to breastfeeding a baby, not a toddler.  How many calories should I be eating when I am exercising 3-5 times a week (breaking a good sweat)?  I was doing 1,500 to 1,670 and started suffering from frequent dizzy spells and felt hungry ALL the time!  I also only eat low glycemic foods, but not too many grains as I gain weight seriously (did the GI diet DILIGENTLY for two weeks and GAINED five pounds!!).  I don't do sugar, sweets or pop etc but whole foods.

Please help me.... What calorie range should I eat to reduce without starving myself?

Answer
Hi Beth,

Thanks for your great question!

This is why I'm so upset with the diet and nutrition industry. Their obsession with calories is COMPLETELY IRRELEVANT TO GOOD HEALTH AND WEIGHT LOSS.

If you want to lose weight it has NOTHING TO DO with counting calories! In fact, studies have shown that people who eat just 1000 calories a day and yet eat processed carbohydrates like white sugar, white bread, etc. will still gain weight.

And I know from experience that you can eat as much of a fresh salad as you want and never gain weight. I mean, have you ever seen anyone who got fat from eating fruits and vegetables? Of course not!

If I were you, I would not focus at all on counting calories - it's irrelevant and a waste of time. Furthermore, it's a huge distraction from the important things - like eating more fruits and vegetables, cutting out processed foods, and limiting meat and dairy consumption which both cause weight gain (especially dairy).

It's also quite possible that you have some other issues going on as well like hormonal issues, thyroid problems, toxicity, or digestion problems that are also contributing to weight gain and making it difficult to lose weight. I can't go into more detail about it just from your question, but I do go into great detail on how to lose weight naturally, what things to eat, what to avoid, etc. in my newsletter. You can get access to it all for free at www.AuthenticHealthCoach.com

I hope that helps!

Wishing you wellness,
Tom
