QuestionI have been a vegetarian all my life.I am 29 year old male. I do eat eggs and milk but no meat, fish. I am starting to begin a work out and strength training program. So my main question would be
Could I maintian my protein requirements by the food I eat? I know eggs are good but its boring to eat them everyday. How much of egg yolk can I eat maximum a day considering its rich in cholesterol but also has polystaurated fatty acids which are good in fact.
I am open to eating chicken but I dont want to do it unless its necessary. Is eating meat in anyway better than a vegetarian diet? Not to mention they are processed and who knows what has been fed to those animals? I am confused. Please help with this. I strongly believe in natural food rather than any supplements or processed and stored foods.
Thank for the help sir.
AnswerHello Rick,
Although I prefer a diet that includes meat myself, your lifestyle can be very healthy as long as you don't consume an excess of bread, pasta, rice, cereals, candy, cakes, etc.
As far as the working out is concerned, purchase a low-sugar whey protein powder and take one serving before your workout and one serving after your workout. Each serving should contain 20 grams of protein. By taking the protein powder in close proximity to your workouts, you will get the most bang for your buck.
Continue to eat eggs, eat up to a dozen a week (you do not have to worry about this causing a problem with your cholesterol, research has shown that people can eat as many as 15 eggs a week without any increase inc cholesterol). I would also add more Greek yogurt with a little fruit mixed in, preferably berries.
Eat as many non-starchy vegetables as you can and as little refined breads, pastas, and cereals as possible.
If you do this, you should be able to strengthen the muscles and live a very healthy life.
