How to reach goal of a thigh gap?

Question
Hello! I am a 16 year old female, I am 5'3 and I weigh 128 pounds. By genetics, I am no slender, I have what my dad calls an "athletic" build. I do play a lot of sports, and I dance as well. I am pretty slender on top, but most of my weight seems to collect in my thighs and hips, which makes me pretty self-conscious sometimes, especially when I can't wear certain things because they make me look cut in half. I would love to achieve a thigh gap, and the weight of 115 has been floating around in my head for a while. I have gotten down to 120 before, but still was not completely satisfied, as I had no thigh gap. My problem is that I will start a diet, loose the weight, and then pack it back on again because of my love of good food (Italian, aka starch city!). It is really frustrating that my motivation does not last, and now that I want to start back on te track of loosing weight, I keep putting off dieting, because I hate feeling like I have to deprive myself of some of my most loved foods, yet I know that that is the only way I will make real progress. Please, can you maybe give me some insight as to how to maintain my motivation, or maybe express as to why I am unable to keep the weight off? Also, is it even possible to achieve a thigh gap, with my bone structure not lending itself to slenderness? Is there even such a thing as being "big-boned"? Thank you so incredibly much, I appreciate your time and I know how valuable it is, I sincerely am grateful for your help in my steps towards changing myself for the better. Thanks for reading!

Answer
Kaitlin, you are within a normal weight for your height, so don't assume that the weight you dream of will give you a perfect body-there is no such thing as a perfect body. Genetics plays a role in where you store fat and your bone structure in general. If you dream of losing weight and gaining thin thighs, then your performance in sports just might suffer. Also you are still growing and maturing, so your body is still changing. How you looked when you were younger may never be achievable again due to your maturation.
Take for an example an 18 year old who weighs 110 pounds compared to a 11 year old who weighs 110 pounds, same weight, but their bodies are very different. Accept your body, stay strong with your sports and lose by 5 pound increments to see if you actually have thigh fat that can be lost; you will see that with a tape measurement after one week. Motivate yourself to be strong and healthy, it is the muscles mass that burns calories, if you diet down and lose your muscle mass, you will have to eat less and your metabolism will slow making it easier to gain weight.
