white kidney bean extract

Question
The pills are sold as yet another diet pill but my interest is their claim that the pills "reduce carb calories."  I am diabetic and must watch the carbs.  Do these really do anything toward reducing carbs?  The bottle I have says to take them 2x a day.  They were given to me by a friend so I do not know their cost.  Am I just throwing my money away if I continue to take them?  Each pill is 1000mg.

Answer
Hi Ron,
I suspect your first instinct is correct, unfortunately.
I can't imagine how a bean extract would do anything to block carbs, although eating the beans themselves may delay a rise in blood sugar because they contain soluble fiber.
As long as you're taking them I would suggest checking your blood glucose and comparing days you take the pills to days you don't. You never know, it might have some effect, and then you would know!
