AnswerHi Malcolm,
I feel your pain man. I use to battle with the old battle of losing 10 pounds and gaining 10 pounds. It is actually unhealthy.
The more and more I study the body and how fat loss occurs I understand why I kept fluctuating so much. Hopefully after reading this short article you too will understand what it really takes for you to reach your final fitness destination.
Just sit back for a moment and imagine just how great you ARE going to feel when I reach your goal weight and stay there for many many weeks. IT WILL FEEL GREAT!!
Vision is your first step towards reaching your goal. If you can't imagine how you will feel after reaching your goal or if you can't envision how great you will look, you won't ever be able to reach your goal. The reason being; you won't have a tangible goal.
The second secret to losing weight without gaining weight in a few weeks has to do with the type of weight that you are losing.
Just about every single diet and weight loss program in the world will advertise lose lots of weight in a very short time. The main problem that I see with that is that the weight that you lose on these programs usually consists of muscle and water weight, not fat weight.
By losing muscle, you won't burn as many calories, since a pound of muscle burns around 50 calories a day on average. So lets say you lost 10 pounds on the miracle diet, but 8 of those pounds were muscle. That simply means that you losing out on burning an extra 400 calories a day.
What does all of this mean?
Weight gain occurs when we consume more calories than we burn. If you lose 8 pounds of muscle and no longer burn 400 calories that you once burned then that simply means that you are 400 calories closer to gaining weight.
I bet you are wondering what you should do then to lose the weight and keep the weight off.
High Intensity Turbulence Training (H.I.T.T)
The focus of your workouts will be to manipulate your metabolism to help your body burn more calories when you are not working out. This is quite the opposite of what most programs have you focus on. Most programs will have you count how many calories you burn during the workout.
I would rather focus on increasing the amount of calories you burn for the other 23 hours in the day.
No matter if you are using free weights, body weight, machines, or a combination of the three; you should perform mini circuits at high intensity. A recent study revealed that doing high intensity mini circuits will increase your resting metabolic rate as well as increase your lean muscle mass.
Once you have completed your high intensity resistance training with the free weights, machines, or body weight; you will go right into the best part of the workout, cardio intervals.
Cardio intervals are real simple to perform.
A sample of what a cardio interval session could look like is 20 minutes on the treadmill. The first few minutes are to be spent warming up to the treadmill movement. The rest of the time is to be spent following a pattern of 30 seconds top speed running followed by 1 minute of a slower speed to catch your breath.
It is also a proven fact that cardio intervals will always yield more fat loss than plain old steady state aerobics (walking on the treadmill for an hour).
