QuestionHello, most people say college freshman gain the big "15" for me it was more like 40. I am 5'5'' and i am 240 pounds. I have been on and off diets, i've taken diet pills under my doctors supervision, but once i got off the pills i gained the weight again + a little extra. Im in college, i live on my own, my entire family is obese, and im tired of being like this. how can i start, is there somewhere i can go, like a website, where i can get healthy recipes and how much is each portion? etc...
AnswerBelen, first off I want for you to realize that since your entire family is obese, you are simply living the lifestyle that you were taught and that is familiar and comfortable to you--in an environment now (college) that easily puts excess weight on anyone; fast food, dorm foods, stress and little time to exercise.
What I would have you do is this; start today by committing to consuming 1/2 your body weight in fluid ounces of water--for you that is 120 ounces. Do NOT drink all the water in one gulp, one sitting or in one hour! That is when hyponatremia from large amounts of fluid can happen and harm the kidneys. Rather, drink small sips throughout your day; from when you wake until before bedtime. It does two things; decreases your appetite and helps to get your body functioning properly.
Once you have done this successfully EVERY Day for 2 weeks, come back and ask me what to do NEXT!
That is the most important health habit you can instill and important enough that we take the time for you to get it right and create the habit therefore I do not ask MORE change of anyone until this change is set.
Dieting has a person change everything they do all at once on day "One" of their diet. That is why diets don't fail and the entire time the person is on the "short term restricted caloric intake program" they are dying to get off of it and revert back to their old lifestyle and old habits or "vices" as I call them; thus gaining the weight back and usually a bit more.
I surveyed 14 million readers and asked "Do you have these vices that knock you off track?" 81% said YES! 38% responded that the cheat or break their diet DAILY to eat them and 33% confessed to breaking their diet WEEKLY. That tells me with great certainty that 71% of well-intentioned dieters--people just like you--really try to lose weight, really mean for 'this diet' to be their last--but their vices knock them off track continually. So, rather than try to only change a person for the short term and make them suffer through another suspended animation "diet", I encourage people to bust their vices--ONE at a time.
Starting with first instilling a healthy habit; the consumption of 1/2 your body weight in fluid ounces of water.
My way works. My way has helped tens of thousands of people and it will help you if you are willing to stop dieting and start Vice Busting!
I hope to hear from you soon!
