AnswerHi Chris - one of the problems with muscle-building is that muslce weighs 3 times what fat does on a scale, so sometimes in the beginning stages of an exercise program, your weight increases on the scale. Of course you may also find that as you have been exercising more, you've also been eating more - but only you will know whether that is true for you or not.
A much more accurate measure than weight on a scale is to monitor your percentage body fat which you can do at http://www.ditch-diets-live-light.com/body-fat-calculation-and-health/html Percentage body fat chances much more slowly than what a scale will, but at the end of the day scales only tell you what you weigh - they don't give you any idea of percentage fat vs lean body mass (muscle). So, for example, American football players, who can appear large will be overweight on a scale but may well carry a high percentage muscle which wouldn't show up on a scale.
It might also help you to understand how your metabolism works which you can read up about at http://www.ditch-diets-live-light.com/basal-metabolic-rate.html
Kind regards
