Answer
1. Helping people with obesity is important to me, because I have lived the struggle of preventing obesity and I understand the frustrations. Because we need to eat to survive, I wanted to learn how to find balance and avoid many of the unhealthy temptations out there. My books relay more of a mindful approach to learn how to pay attention and change the way one speaks to oneself.
2. There is a difference between skipping meals and fasting. Skipping meals is not a healthy thing to do, as the body thinks it is starving and slows the metabolism down to conserve. Fasting is a planned way of eliminating certain foods, or all solids, but in a healthy way, still bringing in nutrition to the body. Starving is totally cutting out caloric intake and can harm the body by taking energy from muscle.(The heart is a muscle) The brain needs glucose to function. Answering this question could be an essay in itself.
3. I am not sure what you mean by "America being bigger than other countries". I will guess that you are referring to our culture of obesity. We tend to eat more for pleasure and comfort in America. Many cultures around the world may eat for survival, or see the act of putting food in the body as a more sacred way of nourishing a temple. Over excess of food tends to be more of a phychological need for fulfillment. Obesity can also be more common in less financially sound homes, as eating snacks or making unhealthy choices may be due to lack of money to eat better meals.
4. Fast food places are great as long as you choose healthy selections. I am glad to see they serve salads these days.
5. You can grow emotionally and learn the uniqueness of your self and grow to learn new ways of healthy living. Then the obesity will disappear.
6. My personal thought on what makes anyone obese is eating more than what the body is using for energy. Food is an addiction to those who seek food for comfort and psychological fullfillment.
7. The positive thing about obesity is that it does not have to be permanent. The body always responds to what you ask of it. If you are asking for it to be obese by your choices, then it will be. A person can choose. So the person with obesity can make better choices. We see that on "The biggest loser" show on TV.
8. Healthy eating is eating alot of vegetables, some fruit and small amounts of meat. Drinking good water, and getting fiber. Exercise does not need to be streneous, just consistent. A good 45 minute brisk walk every day would be a great way to be active. Doing fun activities...such as dancing, tennis, or other sports.
9. Being a healthy eater will encourage others who are with you to do the same. Living by example is the best thing you can do. Partaking in an activity with an obese person, can encourage them to be more active.
10. Well that is difficult question, but I suppose, I would eat salads. I do love dark chocolate and am happy to know that it has antioxidants. I do realize how easy it is for me to put on weight when I eat chocolate, so I have to limit my intake to only certain days of the year. Not daily or weekly. And then when I do eat it, it is in small amounts.
11. Obesity is the result of eating more than you use up in energy. It is a simple math problem.
12. I do not believe in dieting. I believe in making healthy choices for a lifetime. Diets are temporary, in that we never want to deprive ourselves of things. It just makes us want to eat them more. It is easier to limit than to eliminate.
13. The World Health Organization has a call to action to all healthcare providers to encourage wellness and weight loss for the obese person. Of course there are many business designed to assist people to lose weight, such as the gym or other workout centers.
14. Metabolism is something that every cell in the body is doing, every minute of the day. If the metabolism is slow, then the body will not burn energy as fast. One way to increase the metabolism is to be active. It is always adviseable to have a doctor assure that there are no other metabolism problems related to Thyroid disorders, etc. People who are obese are at high risk for developing Diabetes, heart disease, and other diseases.
15. According to the search on internet, 822 a day and 300,000 a year die of obesity. (More than any war)
