loose skin

Question
hi,i am a 18 year old male whose has lost around 30kilos in
the past year....everything is fine BMI is no more obese
and its normal but i am facing a problem and the problem is
that after loosing the weight my skin all over the body has
become loose.......my family doctor said that the skin
might tighten up,,,,,,,do i require a surgery for
this.......or will it tighten up

Answer
Visu,
Your loose skin does have some ability to shrink, and the fact that you are young would be expected to improve the elasticity of your skin.

This shrinking process takes 18-24 months to follow its course, so my advice is to wait until about 2 years from the beginning of your weight loss and then make an assessment about whether the remaining loose skin needs to be removed.

Best wishes,
Dr JP
