QuestionHi julia, I'm interested in the gastric sleeve. But it seems so new. How do you go about finding a good qualified doctor? I don't know anyone who has had it done so I can't get any recommendations.
Thanks for your input.
AnswerHi Jennifer,
From my reading and listening to various surgeons' discussion, gastric sleeve is a very successful and safe procedure, when performed on the appropriate candidate.
There are advantages to this over the other bariatric procedures, however, there are also different considerations. Dr. Tuan Pham, a laparoscopic surgeon in our practice, Synergy Bariatrics, has performed this procedure after study and mini fellowship training. He is in favor of this restrictive procedure which seems to have some malabsorptive components as well.
My suggestion to you is to perform thorough research on reputable sites, such as those from government and industry sponsored organizations. You may also consider bariatric surgery forums to discuss this option with your peers. ObesityHelp.com is one of the largest community sites I know of and can probably be a great resource for you.
Good luck with your investigation. Hope this was helpful to you.
