QuestionHi Karla-
Re your reply to Lori on 6/1/10'weight gain after gastric bypass':
I just wanted to tell you that I found your response to be so encouraging and thoughtful. I had the same question, and a google search led me to the www.allexperts.com site today. It brought a measure of comfort to my spirit as I have been feeling discouraged at a 2yr weight gain of 30lbs. But, I am going to do the 5dpt, and implement additional modalities to get back on track.I needed to remind myself that I chose 'life over food'...
Again, thank you so much for your caring contribution.
With warmest regards,
Debbie L.
AnswerHi Debbie:
Thanks so much. It means a lot to me.
I think that in tackling your weight gain when it's only 30 pounds is definitely the way to go. I hope the 5 day pouch test is successful for you. I do know quite a few people for whom it has seemed to get things going. I think it's important to celebrate your current success, so rather than say, "I gained 30 pounds" which is negative; I'd much rather hear people say, "I lost X pounds and I've kept it off for 2 years." Focus on your success. Focus on all you've achieved already. I think that people who struggle with morbid obesity are so used to being failures... failing on every single diet, etc.--that it becomes natural to almost expect the surgery to fail or to focus on our perceived failure. Reality is people who get bariatric surgery are people who never gave up. They kept looking for a solution.
I know that maintenance can be rather boring when one gets used to seeing the scale go down and down and down each day. It's the tougher fight. I know you can do it, Debbie.
Kind Regards,
Karla
