QuestionHi There, I am turning 25 years old. I currently have a BMI of 44.9. As per my OB/GYN Iam infertile due to my weight, and I am too overweight for medication. I have high blood pressure and high cholesterol. I am 5'5" and weigh 271 LBS. I have very bad back problems, which limits the exercise I can do. My legs numb occasionally. I have a very hard time sleeping. I have a 2.5 year old son and I find it very difficult to keep up with him. I was just wondering if this was significant enough to get a referral from my doctor. I have an appt with him March 15th, for my back, which I will then ask about the referral. Do I bring in the forms for him? If so where do I find them? I have done every diet out there from Dr.Bernstien to weight watchers to diet pills, and more. Some work temporarily, and I gain all the weight back plus more. This is my last resort. I know this will not fix me, but it will give me a tool to help me. I have not been checked for diabedes but I will mention that to him as well when I am there. I have been doing my research, and I know all risks involved. I hope you can help me, thanks
Tash
AnswerAll you need is a bmi of 40. You qualify just fine.
Your doctor has to submit your name to the bariatricregistry.ca
That's the process. Very simple. Your doctor does it all so getting your doctor on
board to understand the need for bariatric surgery is all the "convincing" you'll need to do.
He registers on the registry, sends in your info on there and you'll wait for 3 months or so for
an appointment. He enters your postal code and a centre will be chosen on that.
