Flurry of New Studies Show Oral Weight Loss Drugs Work

A flurry of new studies have provided further evidence that oral weight loss drugs can be effective in helping people lose weight and keep it off. These drugs work by a variety of mechanisms, including reducing appetite, increasing metabolism, or blocking the absorption of fat.

One study, published in the journal JAMA Internal Medicine, found that people who took the drug liraglutide (Victoza) lost significantly more weight than those who took a placebo. Participants in the study lost an average of 10% of their body weight after one year, and 6% of their body weight after two years.

Another study, published in the journal The Lancet, found that people who took the drug semaglutide (Wegovy) lost an average of 15% of their body weight after 68 weeks. This is the largest amount of weight loss ever seen in a clinical trial of an obesity drug.

These studies add to the growing body of evidence that oral weight loss drugs can be effective in helping people lose weight and keep it off. However, it is important to note that these drugs are not a magic bullet. They must be used in conjunction with a healthy diet and exercise plan in order to be effective.

If you are considering taking an oral weight loss drug, talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits of these medications.
