Sarah’s Weight Loss Story!
In the start of August, 2013 I was a size 28. This was a lifelong battle with weight issues. I hit my peak at 330 pounds. I could hardly breathe, let alone walk very far. I was unhappy, but at a loss how to fix my weight problem. I had zero support from anyone to lose weight. People in my life would make snide comments about my weight. I wanted to get a weight loss surgery like everyone else I knew. But I was always told no and that I needed to do it on my own.
Strangers were even mean to me and I am assuming it was because I was very overweight. I was limited on the clothes I could buy. I felt as if my husband was unhappy with me because I was so unhappy and obese. My overall life was pure hell.
On September 30th, I woke up and decided that I needed to change. That day I started walking two miles and did it every day. After about four months of walking and slowly increasing the distance, I decided to try running. I thought that if I ran I would get done faster. Not only did I get done faster, but I really increased my distance. All of a sudden I was planning my day around my running schedule.
I started controlling what I was eating and brought more veggies and less carbs into my house. I counted all my calories and made sure I ate enough of the right foods. Livestrong has a tool that tracks your diet and calories which saved me since I used that tool to count all my calories.
I am now 200 pounds and a size 10-12! I have lost 130 pounds and will never go back. I have found a new life in running and it really has saved me. I am very happy now with my life. I am living in Boston and I have a great circle of running friends. We all encourage each other to push ourselves. I have runner friends all across the country, and some outside of country.
I want to encourage those who are struggling with weight loss. You can do it but you need a support system that will be there when you want to make poor food choices and not workout.
I have struggled with weight my entire life. I was a very overweight kid and then finally lost a lot of weight. I was never taught what to eat and how to eat healthy. I always got whatever I wanted to eat. I had lost weight in the past, gained it all back and for over 14 years kept the extra weight on my poor joints and bones.
I am never going back! I did it all alone, no surgery and no pills. I just did it because I remember wanting to die when I was so heavy. No one should ever have to live like that!

I wanted to die because I was so gross.
What were the most important changes you made to lose weight?
Food, and controlling how much I ate.

About two months into it I saw results.

How has your life changed now that you’ve lost weight?
WOW! For starters, strangers are much nicer to me now. I can shop wherever I want and I always find my size (for the most part).
Do you have any advice for others who are trying to lose weight?
Don’t give up. If you want it bad enough you will get there. Start small. For one month, walk a mile each day. Then the next month walk two miles every day. Do this for at least five days a week.
