Obesity, Simple Diet and Common Sense

Obesity is an excess of body fat: 20% or greater than normal body weight (adjusted for age, height, frame, sex, etc.). It is stored throughout the body in the blood, arteries, liver, pancreas, intestines, skin, thighs, hips, buttocks, abdomen, etc. Obesity is commonly described, as a civilized disease as only a "civilized" man or woman, would abuse diet causing his or her condition to become obese. The modern American diet and lifestyle is a prime cause.

The body digests, transforms food, nutrients into blood, into structure into function, Whatever food or fluids, nutrients not digested, absorbed become waste that is temporarily stored and later eliminated. Poor food choice, combining tends to weaken digestion, metabolism causing more storage (water, fat, sugar, protein, waste, etc.) than elimination. Overeating, especially protein, fat, starch and sweets (ice cream, cookies, candy, soda, alcohol, etc.) tend to weaken digestion, metabolism and elimination while increasing weight.

Obesity according to some in modern medicine is caused by a genetically predisposed hormonal condition that causes one to overeat. These hormones according to some doctors are aggravated by poor diet, overeating, as certain foods trigger the hormones, appetite but are not corrected, negated by proper diet, elimination of the offending foods. This is total nonsense. Certain foods can trigger, feed and stimulate genetically predisposed hormones to make you overeat, but these same foods cannot be controlled, reduced to decrease appetite? Does this argument make any sense? No, it does not.

If you took thousands of obese people and sent them to China to live for a year, where they could only eat rice, cooked vegetables, smaller amounts of protein and fat (fish, chicken, beans, etc.), fruit with little or no dairy, milk, yogurt, what do you think would happen to their obesity and general health? Their obesity, excess fat would disappear while their overall health would improve. How many obese Chinese do you see versus obese Americans? You see very few.

The middle diet, meal plan adjusted accordingly is recommended. Avoid overeating and late night meals, snacking. Increase exercise, walking, especially after a meal. The downward movement of food in the small intestine (22 feet in length) increases digestion and elimination. The more you digest and eliminate, the less you store.

The mental part is more difficult. It requires mental discipline, will power to space and or skip meals, reduce nighttime eating and not stock your house with ice cream, beer, cookies, pretzels, etc. but instead dried fresh or canned fruit, bread, nut butters, etc. Just because you are hungry or have a sweet craving does not mean you have to eat, choose the worst sweet. Your body, sweet taste can be easily satisfied with an apples, oranges, pineapple, etc. Why not eat fruits and vegetables (celery, carrots) if you crave sweets or are going to overeat? Drink juice, water when you feel hungry. No one says you have to make the worst choice when craving sweets, food.

It is all about choice. At some point, you have to make up your mind to eat less, skip meals and experience the joys of hunger. The answers are always easy and the doing, more difficult but not impossible. You can do, eat whatever you want. Write down everything you do not like about overeating, and read it aloud, often, every day. How serious are you?
