They then turned to seeing if the viruses that existed in humans already contributed to being overweight. They found that adults that have the antibodies for the disease AD36 tended to be overweight. Only eleven percent of the people who had the antibody were thin. This led them to believe that this virus does cause obesity. They tested this ailment first, because it was known to be linked to obesity in other animals.
They did, and this made scientists curious if such a disease existed in humans. They first started by testing for the virus they already knew existed on obese adults. They found the in most of the obese participants the AD36 was present. They still were not sure of the answer to their question.
When a heavier set of twins were tested, one had the ailment and the other did not. They both weighed the same and had close to the same amount of body fat. The one with the virus did have slightly more, but only by a couple percent.
They studied a set of twins to find that one had the bacteria, and one did not. They were both overweight, and had around the same amount of body fat. This led a different set of scientists to conclude that the virus has little to do with obesity. You can see where both sides have facts to back up their arguments.
A scary thought is that AD 36 is contagious, which makes you care a little more if you are overweight is caused by the medical fat disease AD 36. It starts in the lungs and works its way all around your body. As of now, there are not any cures for the ailment. There is a test that can be done to determine if you do have the ailment but it will cost you a little to find this out.
