Why What We Eat Could Be Leading To Our Nations Downfall

"The fate of a Nation and it's people depends on how it is fed" This historic remark was made more than a century ago - shortly after the battle of Waterloo- by the meditative Frenchman Brillat Savarin.

He had seen the once powerful French empire slowly slip away from the over weight obese Napoleon. Years before Napoleon had been the handsome hero of his people, full of sex appeal and with an athletic body the envy of men and the desire of women. But over the years he had become a huge jowly over weight man. He was no longer held in any esteem , he lost his authority and eventually literally ate himself out of power.

Despite the fact Napoleon ultimately stood down from power he saw in the end it was a result of his excessive and obsesive eating. Such that Napoleon wrote a now famous paper called Obesity in which he attempted to teach his fellow men and women about the serious consequences of obesity and how it was capable of destroying lives . It had his, and to this day it continues to do so across America and beyond.

What he did like many before him was to try and educate people to eat only enough to maintain their beautiful bodies in peak physical condition. But inspite of his attempts and those that have followed the vast majority of people still choose to be fat and overweight.

People on the whole don't really want to be fat, in fact I doubt any one actually wants to be fat do they?

Who would choose to be fat? Am I right that fat kids are the ones who get teased at school and how many fat pop stars or movie stars are there ... Have you noticed when fat people get roles on TV they are nearly always so people can make fun of them.

What is it that forces us to sit down to eat all manner of foods whether they be baked, fried, boiled roasted or prepared in other ways to make ourselves fat. It's simple really we love food and love to eat . But we need to eat to survive don't we?

It's strange but whilst eating to suvive is fine the worse thing is the foods we enjoy and eat the most are those which give us the least nutritional benefit and cause the most harm. All to often I hear people say I'm only having this because I am eating out or this is the last time this week i'll be eating burgers.

Have you notice we create legislation to stop people smoking gradually killing themselves with pollution and cancer causing chemicals. We make laws to force them to be more considerate to themselves and others but when food is involved we provide no such limits.

People walk down the street cramming food into their mouths as if their lives depended on it ..

Fact it they probably will but not in the way they'd be thinking...

I expect you find my rather blunt and perhaps overly honest views on obesity a bit extreme but are they really? Isn't it pretty easy to understand obesity when I put it like that?

Does the softly softly approach work for you? Of course it doesn't if it had you wouldn't be reading this article about obesity in the first place. Does all that junk you are being fed by the media make you want to jump in to Lycra and start exercising. No way you'd no more walk over broken glass but the strange thing is you haven't always been fat have you. When you were born you were pretty much the same as everyone else give or take a few pounds. But some how while you were sleeping you got to be fat and overweight what happend?

It's not only about what you eat that's just one part of the equation. It about the way you look. the way you feel. the way you cook food the way you eat food even the way you dress. the type of exercise you take and even the way you think and much more besides.

There's a lot more involved than eating the right food or taking a magic pill to stop your hunger pangs. It's not about eating oatmeal for breakfast and broiled chicken salads. It far more important than any of that stuff that's just the details it's about understanding your inner and outer beauty it about learning to love yourself. You'll learn to rediscover romance, you'll want great sex and your health will improve beyond recognition most crucially it's about you.
