Diabetes, Hypertension and Obesity leading to Heart Surgery

Heart is a lobe of muscle present in the left side of thoracic cage. It is like a pump which circulates blood all over the body through the connected network of vessels. It is divided in four chambers. The top two chambers are called right and left atria. The other two at the bottom are named as right and left ventricles. Heart is a bunch of bundled up cardiac muscles which is a type of involuntary muscle. Meaning, it keeps on beating without our will or conscious control. There are many diseases which can be a risk factor for the heart. Most common diseases that show negative effect on the heart are diabetes, hypertension and Obesity. Diabetes, hypertension and Obesity have adverse effects on functioning of heart like blocking of veins, skipping heart beats, blood clot inside heart etc which leads to cardiac surgery or commonly called as heart surgery.

Effect of Diabetes: Diabetes is a disease in which the glucose or sugar level in the body rises high. This may be due to body doesn't make enough insulin or due to body's cell doesn't use insulin. If you are diabetic you have two to four times more chances of having cardiovascular disease and that too at a younger age.

Uncontrolled diabetes damages blood vessels which causes hypertension and ultimately leading to cardiac arrest. Heart surgeries are the post operative steps once you fall prey to heart disorders. If a person is diabetic, he can have silent heart attack as diabetes damages your heart vessels. Once your heart vessels are damaged, you will be forced to undergo heart bypass surgery to overcome the damaged vessel. To keep heart healthy even after being diabetic one should start involvement in physical activity, should quit smoking and follow a healthy diet routine.

Effect of Hypertension: Hypertension can start damaging the heart without showing any symptoms. There are more the 980 million people across the globe suffering from 'Hypertension'. Hypertension is nothing but blood pressure in the arteries above the normal limit. Blood pressure is measured depending on the pressure on the heart applied while the heart muscles relaxes (diastole) and contracts (systole). High blood pressure can be defined as the diastolic pressure above 90mmHg and systolic above 100-140mmHg. Hypertension can cause coronary artery disease which narrows the artery and doesn't allow the blood to flow freely through itself. This can weaken the cardiac muscle making heart work even harder in some cases causing heart attack and chest pain. This can also make your overwhelmed heart to fail. Coronary artery bypass surgery will be the solution if hypertension blocks your arteries. To stay away from Hypertension one should take care of diet, use less salt while cooking food and be physically active.

Effect of Obesity: Obesity is the condition in which the excessive fat starts accumulating on the body leading to negative consequence on your health. One can calculate weather he/she is overweight or not just by finding the Body Mass Index (BMI).

BMI=m/h
where, m is the weight in kilograms and h is the height in meters.
Here if BMI is greater than or equal to 25 then the person is overweight. With 1 Unit increase in BMI the risk of Congestive Heart Failure rise by 5% to 7% in men and women respectively. Obesity can even leads to Hypertension, High Cholesterol and ultimately to heart attack. To reduce the risks by getting over weight one should start physical exercise regularly, should take low fat and low carbohydrate diet, must sleep for 6-8 hours per night and must avoid alcohol.
