Americans are getting fatter.
It's not a pretty statement, but it is apparently true.
Adults got fatter in 16 states last year, according to a recent report.
In addition, none of the states showed a decline in their obesity rates.
Statistics show that just over one-third of all Americans are obese.
It's not just Americans that are getting fatter, either. Worldwide obesity rates have doubled for men and nearly doubled for women in the past thirty years.
What studies are finding is that even a small amount of fattening and unhealthy food can lead to obesity in the long run. Even slight changes to a diet, say adding a small candy bar to your daily intake, can lead to long-term weight gain.
In this study, people gained nearly four pounds every four years. What they ate made a difference in whether they gained weight and how much weight they gained as well.
The worst offenders were potato chips, potatoes, drinks with sugar, and meats. In addition, people who sat around watching television and who slept fewer than eight hours a night were more likely to gain weight and be obese.
Another interesting fact emerged from some of these studies: Having fat friends made it more likely you would also be obese. In fact, if you had four overweight friends, your chances of being overweight doubled.
But sadly, having thin friends doesn't increase your chances of being thin.
Obesity is an epidemic problem that leads to shorter life spans and a general reduction in quality of life.
Measures to reduce your weight need to be undertaken on a daily basis. It has been proven time and again that diets don't work and in fact, usually backfire.
The key to losing weight is simple - expend more calories than you take in.
However, be wary of joining the gym and sweating away in intensive workouts. These types of activities sometimes trigger binges as our body craves food afterward.
It seems the prudent method to lose weight is to incorporate daily exercise into our lifestyles. Make it a habit and make it natural.
You can also work on improving your health instead of weight loss and more often than not, the weight loss will naturally follow.
For instance, drinking Nopalea Juice is a great way to boost your health. Made from the Prickly Pear cactus, the juice has become extremely popular over the past few years.
Part of its popularity can be traced back to the connection scientists have made between chronic inflammation and a host of other diseases and ailments. Because Nopalea Juice is made from the Prickly Pear Cactus, it just makes sense that the juice would also have some of the benefits of this amazing plant.
The cactus is known as a natural antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent. Native Central and South Americans as a food and medicine have used it for centuries.
The native Sonoran plant has even been lauded by the esteemed Dr. Mehmet Oz as a great way to cure hangover symptoms, and even more importantly, as a possible aid for people who suffer from diabetes.
