If your doctor or health care provider has warned you that you are bordering on morbid obesity, consider this to be a serious wake up call for you. Morbid obesity means that if you do not sit up and take some serious action, you could die. Yes, that is right die just because of being overweight and the myriad of complications like diabetes, high blood pressure, cardiac and mobility problems and the like.
If you are bordering or close to morbid obesity, gastric bypass surgery is often recommended by doctors. However, you should know that this is a serious abdominal surgical procedure which has its own set of limitations and risks. Surgery of any type should not be taken lightly especially if you are suffering from any other medical conditions which may make healing time longer and more complicated.
However, many morbidly obese people have found a solution in gastric bypass surgery with constant supervision from their doctor. They have had their stomach stapled or another similar abdominal procedure that makes them feel full after eating a little. The problem with people suffering from morbid obesity is that they do not know when to put the fork down. They become emotional or compulsive eaters and do not know when the big bag of potato chips finished before their eyes.
The second prong of the fight against morbid obesity should obviously be exercise. You can control what you eat but until you get moving, you do not burn more calories than you eat and with morbid obesity you have the risk of losing your mobility and being confined to the bed because of joint trouble or other respiratory issues where you are out of breath really fast and can therefore not do much.
There are many social repercussions to morbid obesity as well and if health reasons are not a knock on the door for you, perhaps the fact that it is hard for you to sit in an airplane seat or standard sized car or trouble finding clothes is a motivation to do something constructive about the morbid obesity.
The good news is that something can be done. There have been so many before and after pictures and weight loss programs that have shown how people like you - regular people, not celebrities with personalized trainers and gourmet chefs have had tremendous success. Some have needed a jump start with a medical procedure; others have been able to do it without it. You can too.
