The most popular New Year’s resolution is to find a new job. The second, to get into shape! So, if you’re starting out the new year with a commitment to lose weight or establish an exercise routine that sticks, good for you! Use the momentum of a fresh start to make things seem easier.
It’s OK to wait a couple of days until the guests depart and you go back to work, but as January moves on you will want to be started by the second week so that your resolutions can start to guide you into building NEW habits. That’s an important key….you will want to be braking old habits. Don’t try too many at once, just pick one or two things that you know you can stick at. That in itself will build success and motivate you to keep going.
Here are some ways to keep your enthusiasm high so that you’ll stick with your resolution plans.
Take up lessons on a sport!
Whether you’re new to a sport or just rusty, an hour or two with a tennis, swimming, or other coach can boost your enjoyment greatly. You’ll more eagerly anticipate sessions if you’ve nailed a killer serve or developed a smooth stroke.
Be Accountable
Team up with a buddy to lose weight. Being accountable to someone else is a great motivator and will help keep you on track. Find a weight loss coach who will keep you to a programme. If you can’t do either, at least be accountable to yourself by keeping a daily journal. Review each week and reward yourself for staying on track 6 days out of 7.
Toss Out the Christmas Tucker!
Yes, that’s right. Get rid of all the Christmas tucker! The last thing you need around you are mince pies, left over pudding with brandy sauce, peanuts, cashews and cream! It’s not a waste of food if you make a gift of it for your neighbours. Still have unopened boxes of chocolate gifts? Take them in to work and give to your colleagues.
