Hoodia Gordonii is a rare African succulent and quantities are protected by the African Government. Products like Desert Burn® and Hoodia Gordonii Plus display C.I.T.E.S. certifications on their websites. A CITES certification is a license issued by the African government allowing the exportation of rare or endangered species. Although hoodia supreme claims to contain 800mg of pure African hoodia gordonii powder, they do not display a CITES certification. They display what appears to be a certification of their own design and do not explain the origin of their certification. So, in terms of certification, Hoodia Gordoni Plus and Desert Burn® are supreme.
Desert Burn® recently began farming operations to guarantee that they have adequate future supplies of hoodia gordonii. It takes four or five years before the plant is ready for harvesting. Desert Burn® sells several hoodia products including a hoodia juice. The Desert Burn® product which is comparable to hoodia supreme contains 750mg of hoodia gordonii powder and costs $59.95 per bottle. Hoodia supreme costs $39.95 per bottle. Each bottle contains 60 tablets which is true for most hoodia products. The one exception appears to be Hoodia XR, which contains 90 1000mg tablets per bottle and costs $49.95. 1000mg is the highest content of pure hoodia gordonii powder on the market. So in terms of cost per tablet and mg per tablet, Hoodia XR is supreme.
Another consideration for shoppers is manufacturing method. Manufacturing methods which concentrate and isolate the active ingredients, while filtering out skin, fiber and other impurities is generally considered to provide a more potent product than grinding the whole plant into powder. Both Desert Burn® and hoodia supreme products contain hoodia powder. Hoodia Gordonii Plus contains 400 mg of concentrated hoodia gordonii. Manufacturers which provide a concentrated product indicate the ratio of whole plant to extract for comparison purposes. Hoodia Gordonii Plus provides a ratio of 10:1. This means that ten grams of whole plant material is used to create one gram of extract. So, even though 400mg per tablet appears at first glance to be substantially less than other products, the process of concentrating the plant should provide an equally potent product. Concentration is a more expensive manufacturing process, but the price of Hoodia Gordonii Plus is comparable to hoodia supreme at $39.95 per bottle.
Hoodia supreme and Desert Burn® list only hoodia gordonii as the active ingredient. Choosing a product which is 100% hoodia gordonii over a product which contains a blend of herbs is a matter of personal preference. Other herbs may prove beneficial to the dieter. Hoodia Gordonii Plus contains green tea, garcinia cambogia, magnesium and a proprietary blend of plant enzymes. Some consumers may prefer this type of product. Others may choose Desert Burn®, hoodia supreme, Hoodia XR or any one of a number of hoodia products on the market which contain 100% hoodia. Of the three, only Hoodia XR is a time released product, which may be more effective for some people.
One last consideration is return policy. Since hoodia, like any dietary supplement, may not work for everyone, it is important to check out return policies up front. Both Desert Burn® and Hoodia Gordonii Plus accept returns of unopened bottles, less shipping and handling. Only two products, Hoodia XR and hoodia supreme will issue a refund for one opened bottle, as well as unopened bottles, to customers who are dissatisfied with the effectiveness of this appetite suppressant. So, in terms of return policy, both Hoodia XR and hoodia supreme are supreme.
