Obesity is a major health concern in our country and other parts of the world. So deadly is its reach that even in a developing country like India, there are more people suffering from obesity than there are dying from starvation. What we don’t know is that it doesn’t take any crash dieting or intense workout sessions or extreme Obesity therapy to prevent this disease from taking over our lives. There are some simple lifestyle changes that we can incorporate into our regular routine so as to keep the demons of obesity at bay. You don’t need to visit an Obesity Center to find more about them.
1. Never Skip Breakfast
Breakfast is considered the most important meal of the day. It sets the tone for the rest of the day. By eating a healthy, heavy breakfast, you jump-start your metabolism early on in the day, which enables your body to metabolise sugars and fats faster than on days that you skip breakfast.
Ideally your breakfast meal should consist of all three fat groups – protein, carbohydrates, and fats. Which is why eggs, milk, lean meat, healthy carbs like oats, etc are considered the ideal breakfast food, especially in weight loss treatment.
2. Portion Control
One of the biggest reasons behind gaining excessive weight and obesity is overeating. When we get excessively hungry, we tend to overeat which leads to improper digestion of food and excess sugars being absorbed into the body, which is then converted into fat. To prevent this, we should eat small digestible meals.
3. Greener diet
Incorporate more green, leafy vegetables into your diet, because these are the food products that contain all important vitamins and minerals which ensure a proper functioning of your body. They are also extremely low on calories, so you can actually consume more quantities without gaining too many calories. This is why green, leafy vegetables like kale, lettuce, broccoli, cauliflower, etc are recommended as the diet for Treatment of Obesity.
4. Eat more often
Those who love to eat would probably get disheartened by the above mentioned Portion Control theory. However, when you are eating smaller quantities of food, it is also important to eat more often. Which means that instead of having 3 heavy meals the whole day, we should rather go for 6 small meals throughout the day.
Healthy snacking on peanuts, coconut water, fat-free yoghurt, a slice of cheese or a low calorie fruit is actually recommended if you’re trying to prevent obesity.
5. Regular Physical Activity
And last but not the least, incorporating some form of activity which requires you to get out and sweat it out for a bit at least every other day is an important step in the process of preventing obesity. You don’t need to hit the gym for this, you could try power walking or running, some sport like tennis or squash or badminton, or even swimming, to get your daily dose of healthy workout for a healthy obesity-free life.
