How to Use Exercise as a Stress Reliever

1. Choose an activity you enjoy. If you don't like an activity, you're less likely to stick with it, which means it won't be an effective stress reliever. Some popular stress-relieving exercises include walking, running, swimming, biking, yoga, and dancing.

2. Set realistic goals. Don't try to do too much too soon. Start with a small amount of exercise and gradually increase the intensity and duration as you get stronger.

3. Create a regular schedule. The more consistent you are with your exercise routine, the better it will be at relieving stress. Try to get at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise on most days of the week.

4. Find a workout buddy. Exercising with a friend or family member can make the activity more enjoyable and motivating. You can support each other and help each other stay accountable.

5. Listen to music. Music can help to block out distractions and improve your mood. Create a playlist of your favorite songs and listen to it while you work out.

6. Be mindful. Pay attention to the sensations in your body as you exercise. Focus on your breath and try to let go of any thoughts or worries that are causing you stress.

7. Reward yourself. After you finish your workout, take some time to relax and enjoy the feeling of accomplishment. You could take a bath, read a book, or watch your favorite TV show.

8. Don't overdo it. Listen to your body and stop exercising if you feel pain or discomfort. Exercise should be enjoyable, not painful.
